Comic Fiesta 2012 (Day 2)

23rd DECEMBER 2012

Since last year's Comic Fiesta ended, I've been planning to attend this year's CF. This time, equipped with a proper camera, and theme-appropriate attire~

At the end of the day, after having a super satisfying dinner at MAIU~ The fabric florette clip was from Bangkok.
I got a yukata a while back, before Bon Odori, when Jusco was having a sale for them. I gave it a test run the previous night, and wore it to CF2012! I pulled my hair into a high bun, accessorized it with a beige flower; used eyelid tape on both eyes, with regular winged liner, red lips, and demi lashes; but I neither had geta (Japanese clogs), nor those cute pouches that anime girls carry when wearing yukata, so I just made do with my huge-ass magenta bag, and grey flats.

I shall skip the mundane drone of telling you how I got there and just cut to the chase! The ticket queue was LONG - it went winding around the hall, but the line was constantly moving, so the wait wasn't too long. Before we knew it, we had our tickets, and had a fun time observing and identifying the cosplayers and their characters!

We put on our wristband tickets and headed into the next hall, where all the fun was, and that was where our fun officially started! Oh, yes, the people who went with me - Ken Min and Kah Yeng. Both whom I've known since primary school!

Culture Japan booth. Danny Choo appeared a little later during the day~ The photo of him is with Ken Min.
The corridor to the main hall was filled with prepping cosplayers, so we took our time strolling through. The first part of the main event hall that you enter is the exhibitors' booths, the first two being super dominant - Danny Choo's Culture Japan, and Good Smile Company (reminds me of PSCompany).

Lots of Miku merchandise and cosplayers throughout the whole event (even one of my juniors cosplayed as Miku). There were also giant leek plushies for sale - SO TEMPTING!!!
We just spent the day browsing, gawking at cosplayers, discussing among ourselves, looking at the merchandises sold at both the exhibitors' booths, as well as the creative market, where creative people sell their wares. There was a lot of on-the-spot sketching and drawing, which made me so jelly that I'm not blessed with beautiful art skills!

Describing the entire day would be futile, because it would turn out to be a very long blog post, so I'll let the photos and their captions do the talking~ =D

The first cosplayer who made our jaws drop - the awesomeness of her entire outfit, plus the props!
Favorite cosplayer of the day: Soushi Miketsukami from Inu x Boku SS. His make-up was beautiful, and kept his composure so well~
Quite a number of people cosplayed Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, but more people cosplayed Kirito from Sword Art Online. There were about 15 Kirito cosplayers.
American McGee's Alice: Madness Returns.
Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians.
Xinyi cosplaying as Grand Archer (Rena) from Elsword.

Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children & Dirge of Cerberus.
The only thing I know is that he's a character from Naruto. Ken Min says he's Kakashi Hatake, though.

Ken Min, Kah Yeng, and I. We weren't really close in primary school, but we had a lot of fun gawking at cosplayers!
In between, we had lunch at Killiney Kopitiam, which wasn't a really good choice, given the quality of the service and food (portions equal to price, though, somewhat). I remembered that Xinyi sent me a link of a planned GazettE cosplay collab forum, so for the entire day, I was looking out for any sign of Reita or Ruki, because they have the most prominent cosmetic features in the group.

There were like, so many memories which surged through my mind, but it was promptly pushed out by constantly incoming new and interesting information. Last year, I found some J-rock artists' illustrations for sale at the creative market, but this year, I didn't see a speck of J-rock or visual kei anywhere.

The thing that really made my day was the thing that I didn't expect the most (that's usually the case for most people, though). I went there with a fully charged camera (it died on me 2/3 of the way through the event, then I used Ken Min's phone for photos after that) with the objective of getting as many pictures as possible.

Instead, a few times, some people stopped me halfway through my browsing to ask for a picture. If that wasn't good enough for me, a group of very professional-looking guys called me over for a super-mini-shoot after they had finished photographing another cosplayer. There were like 4-5 giant DSLRs, and a short stream of digital and mobile cameras in front of me.

It was awkward, yet, in a way, satisfying. No, I wasn't cosplaying, which was what my mum told my dad. I just wore a yukata to an awesome ACG event. The photography guys even asked me to pose, all the while talking to each other. At one point I caught (in Cantonese): "her eyes are so beautiful". BLUSH MAX WEI!

There was also a Chobits Freya cosplayer who asked me to take a photo with him. I wonder if I will ever see those photos... I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me a link to any galleries with any photos from Comic Fiesta 2012~ Arigatou!

UPDATE:

Forgot to post up photos of the stuff I got~

All these came in the goodie bag given to us when we bought the tickets~ A Vanguard leaflet, a postcard from Hotlink promoting Super Star Live, as well as a booklet, and the Comic Fiesta Event Survival Guide!
Ever since I got my car, I've been searching high and low for various windshield stickers, and I got this one from one of the Creative Art Market booths for RM8~

Light brown furry hat with ears~ RM30 from Nozomi Enterprise~ I bloody love this hat! I shall wear this to the first day of semester 3!!!

Event: Celebrities with a Cause Closing Ceremony

*Ugh, I'm so sorry. This was supposed to be up a week ago. And I seriously apologize for the bad photo quality*

Official event poster.
Winnie invited me to the event, and since there was volunteering involved (I've kinda fell in love with it, but I've still yet to experience it thoroughly), I went to the Celebrities with a Cause Closing Ceremony. I was initially contemplating whether to go, 'cause I only slept for a couple of hours the previous night, and had been at campus for most of the day doing video editing.

The event was organized by Taylor's Business School and Do Something Good. DSG is an organization which helps provide chances to volunteer for any cause of your choice via an online platform. Various other organizations (NGOs) were present, i.e. SOLS 24/7, Rockcorps Malaysia, WWF Malaysia, and Epic Homes.

The event was supposed to start at 5pm, but it didn't really start until 6pm. Brian registered me, then I sat about a row behind the celebrities' seats. At first I was alone, then before the event I had a can of Nescafe latte while having a conversation with Jason, then during the majority of the event, I was accompanied by Crystal.

The front few rows of seats were reserved for the V.I.Ps, namely all the personnel from the related NGOs, as well as the celebrities who were supposed to attend. The celebrity line-up included Sarimah Ibrahim, JFK, Altimet, Ben Ibrahim, and Amber Chia to name some.

TWO ROWS BACK!
Where I sat was very far in front, because I was one of the earlier ones to get there. Little did I know that I would be sitting TWO SEATS BACK from Sarimah Ibrahim. I mean I'm not a hardcore fan of local celebrities, but they're celebrities nonetheless, some I get a little starstruck around them (like I do with Mr Lady Gaga every time I see him on campus @_@)

Sarimah performing.

The event started with a bit of speeches, as well as a performance by Sarimah - Thank You by Alanis Morisette. I typically tune in to OneFM, or Hitz.fm or RedFM occasionally, if not just switching to my forever-there L'Arc~en~Ciel Awake album. I didn't know Sarimah's voice was so... versatile? I don't know how to describe her performance, but it was an eye opener.

V.I.P shot
The dean of Taylor's Business School and the Deputy Minister of Education, while the founder of DSG looks on.
The V.I.Ps, plus the entire team who made the event happen.
Then there were a few more speeches, as well as ceremonies where tokens of appreciations were given to the V.I.Ps. Amber Chia couldn't make it, Sarimah left early, and so did the Deputy Minister of Education (I'm really sorry, but I was too drowsy).

Team JFK doing Charades.
It was after they left that the games started. JFK, Altimet, and emcee Ben Ibrahim were called upon to pick three members each for a game of charades, which was exceedingly hilarious, as the things that they were supposed to act out were, well, nearly impossible to act out.

The limbo volunteers~ JFK's team was on the other side of the stage.
First up: Team Ben!
Altimet was awesome!
JFK nailing it!
After charades was a battle of limbo. To be honest, except for the celebrities themselves, as well as a few petite girls, a lot of them cheated. =P No, you are now allowed to duck under the bar. It's limbo - you're supposed to limbo through it! XD

Throughout the games, there was much taunting, joking, and laughter, which made it a really fun night for a lot of people. Oh, yeah. And I have not included the performances yet.

Oppa Sabah Style~
First there was an Oppa Sabah Style dance performance by students from the SOLS 24/7, which is an NGO that provides training and boarding through Unique Education Program for Youths. The lead dancer's poker face was amazingly funny~

The blur is his yoyo.
DSG's home rap crew.
The two "hosts" from an R&B organization.
Justin in da haus!
Rap performance.
Group rap performance.
Then was a rap performance by DSG's own crew, followed by a freestyle yoyo performance. The rest of the night was filled with R&B performances - B-boy, rapping, etc.

Da beatboxer. I regret not remembering his name...
The highlight of the night was still the beatboxing. I've only ever seen beatboxing on the internet, as well as Koujee's performance at Miyavi's KL Live, so I only had those to compare to. I was almost literally blown away - even with the crappy sound system, the sounds were so unique.

UPDATE: Beatboxer's name is A Beat C. Courtesy of Mahirah~ XD

By the end of the event, most of the people were gone. In conclusion is was a good night - fun~ It was 8pm, and the highway would still be congested with tired traffic, so I headed to the gym to do my 5km on the treadmill.

้›…ใฎ่ช•็”Ÿๆ—ฅ

September 14th is Miyavi's birthday.

After going to the Miyavi live, I've joined a Facebook group exclusively for Malaysian Co-Myvz. Trust me, the people in there are hardcore J-rock fans, and stalk Miyavi.

One of the members posted a link to the International Co-Myvz Crew Tumblr page, in which they wrote that they planned to make a video with the theme "Miyavi is...", and send it to him on his birthday. I purposely put on make-up, wrote 'Miyavi' on my cheek, and filmed my entry.

On his birthday, there were so many Miyavi tributes going around, and Miyavi himself was contantly tweeting, and at the end of the day he thanked everyone for their lovely birthday messages.

Also, the international Co-Myvz Crew uploaded the birthday video on Youtube, and sent it to him. He tweeted about it as well~

I watched the video, and I couldn't believe what I saw - my entry was the second one. My segment starts at 0:40, and you can see my plastic-wrapped yukata, and dresses at the back.

Miyavi is the one who made me fall in love with visual kei, and told me all I need to do in life is stay true to myself.

It's amazing - there are so many Co-Myvz all over the world, so many whose lives changed because of him.

Proud to be a ไป”้›… !

L'Arc~en~Ciel is coming to Singapore!!!

Great news, J-rock lovers! Laruku is coming (actually going, technically, because I live in Malaysia) to Singapore!!! It's a complete dream come true! Never in my life would I think that they would come so near!

HERE is the link to the events page. You can get some extra information from there.

The first Laruku song I ever heard was MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM, which was absolutely heavenly, with hyde's vocals and ken, yukihiro and tetsu's amazing music skills. Did you know? Most of the songs that Laruku plays are composed and written by hyde? Those that are in the Awake album, anyway.

I can't believe that I can stand a chance to see them live for once in my life, and no longer off my computer screen! I think I can die in peace after the concert.

I wanted to write a shitass long post, but right now I'm speechless with excitement and joy - I'm already planning what to wear, what make-up to do, how I should do my nails, how we're gonna go there, etc. With consent of my aunt, I think I can bunk there for one night, because the concert is on a Saturday night, so probably, we (BF and me) will somehow get there on Saturday afternoon, attend the concert, then get back by Sunday evening.

The previous concert that I wanted to go to, which was the GazettE's Tokyo Dome finale, was way out of the way, and much too expensive. THIS IS JUST A 4-HOUR DRIVE SOUTH, AND THE VENUE IS SO CLOSE TO MY AUNT'S HOUSE!!! This is a bloody DREAM COME TRUE, I TELL YOU!

I can somehow accept not being able to go for the Tokyo Dome concert, but THIS IS THE CONCERT THAT I'M DETERMINED NOT TO MISS!!!
