Metallic grey smokey eyes

My classmates have been curious about why I've been wearing make-up to classes everyday for the past three days when I seldom even apply mascara. Here's the thing, on most days I have to wake up at 6am to come for a 10am class, so I have predicted that I will sleep like a pig somewhere on campus, and my eyes are really dry in the morning, and if I do apply make-up so early, my tearing eyes will just wash everything off, so why bother?

Anyway this is the make-up I wore to campus today - a metallic or very fine, shimmery grey smokey eyes. Usually I'd do my smokey eyes with browns, and if I wanted it extra dramatic I'd add some black, but somehow today I opted for grey, a metallic/shimmery one, no less.

Anyway, here's what I used (shadows from 120 palette):

  • shu uemura Creme Eyeshadow in Beige (applied using fingers as primer all over lid)
  • #1 (matte white, applied using large flat brush as highlight on brow bone)
  • #6 (shimmery silver, applied using small or medium flat brush as base color on entire lid)
  • #7 (dark shimmery grey, applied using small flat brush or fluffy shadow brush as contour on outer corners and slightly above crease for definition)
  • Elianto Stay-On Eye Liner in Black (applied thinly using angled brush)
  • MaxFactor False Lash Effect mascara in Black
  • TheFaceShop Automatic Eyebrow Pencil in Black (applied sparingly on sparse areas and blended with spoolie brush)
  • TheBodyShop Oil-Free Balancing Foundation in 05 (applied using damp sponge as concealer on dark circles)
  • Maybelline Clear Smooth Aqua Gel Foundation in 12 Natural (applied using damp sponge of the rest of the face and as concealer on blemishes)
  • Pigeon Compact Baby Powder in Beige (applied using large face brush in dabbing and gently sweeping motions)
  • Bobbi Brown Blush in Blushed (applied using medium face brush to hollows of cheeks, using "fish face" as guideline)
  • Abon shimmery pink lipstick (applied thinly on lips using lip brush)
  • Clarins Joli Rouge LongWearing Moisturizing Lipstick in 722 Lilac Pink (applied using small lip brush)

If you have clear brow gel, use it. This look looks best with uber neat brows. What I did was just use the spoolie and combed the hairs nicely, which reminds me that I need to trim my brows soon. I kept the brows really as plain I could possibly do, because my brow shape alone is strong enough - my arch is quite sharp, and quite thick, so they look fiercer, even without filling in.

Smokey eyes are unique and timeless because of the "smoked" effect, where the color is more opaque at the lash line and diffused up and out, like the color is blending into the skin. A simple look can be easily glammed up with smokey eyes, especially smokey eyes that have shimmer or color.

This is a really nice combo to glam up your eyes without having that really goth-y look and it's also more fail-proof than browns because none of the colors used here are non-skin tone, unlike the usual browns. Recommendations: wear it to a date or an event when you want a mysterious, seductive look.
